Crisafulli School 4th Grade Birding Program

Since 2001, the Trust has partnered with Westford fourth grades to present a bird feeder program. The trust maintains and fills feeders at Crisafulli and Abbot Schools.  At present, Crisafulli School is currently participating in this program. Last month, Crisafulli librarian Sue Carr helped to organize a birding presentation to each of six fourth grade classes by Trust Directors Marian Harman & Diane Duane. The trust has provided binoculars and field guides to help with this project. As seen in photo, Marian talked to students about citizen science, using the binoculars and field guides to observe, count and record different species of birds that visit the feeder viewed from the library. The students did a great job asking lots of interesting questions and sharing their observations as well. Bird counts are sent to Marian to be added to the Westford Wildlife Watch newspaper column. Data will also be shared with Cornell Lab of Ornithology Project Feeder Watch.
